Recognised for its distinctive backward-curled ears, the American Curl is a relatively recent breed whose appearance emerged naturally in California during the early 1980s. Beneath its unusual silhouette, the breed is known for an expressive gaze, balanced proportions and a notably social, curious temperament.

Its soft coat patterns and flexible physicality contribute to an impression of alertness and ease, qualities often associated with adaptability and close interaction with domestic environments. The curved ears, unique to the breed, give the animal a quietly attentive presence without altering the natural elegance of its movement.
